I find it impossible to predict what I will learn when students tell me about their SSC. SSC are such a rich and varied part of the Medical Undergraduate curriculum. Here is just some of the things I learned about today:
- ear deformities can be corrected without surgery if treated in very young children
- collateral patient histories can help patient management, particularly for elderly patients
- hip and knee surgery outcomes don’t seem to vary due to socio-economic status
- Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder
Thanks to all the students that talked to me.
