SSCs are a central component of medical education. The SSC within the new C21 programme requires a clear framework to develop the potential of every medical student. The plan is to develop a portfolio of SSCs supported by a network of tutors, which will allow students to extend their learning beyond the core curriculum.
For the programme to be innovative, long-term, we envisage development of innovative medical projects linked with science, social science, formal science, natural science, applied science and with the arts and humanities.
To expand the International repertoire of projects available we hope to work more with the Communications and International Relations Division (CAIRD) to effectively manage overseas opportunities.
Alignment with GMC outcomes and standards and the professional standards of the Academy of Medical Educators will be the basis for the new structure.
