Rafael’s Postgraduate Taught Scholarship has enabled him to gain valuable additional qualifications which will help him stand out in an increasingly competitive international job marketplace. He is currently studying MSc International Planning and Development.

Can you tell us a little bit about the programme in your own words?

“The MSc in International Planning and Development is a remarkable course. The quality of teaching is exceptionally high. As a result, I would highly recommend the course to planners and professionals interested in planning as a key area in development. The atmosphere in class is magnificent and the good relation between students and teachers facilitates the studying.”

What were your motivations for undertaking a postgraduate degree?

“I couldn’t get a job in my home country and I decided to work abroad, but before that I needed the right skills and knowledge that Cardiff University offers me. After graduating,  I expect to work abroad.”

Why did you decide to do your postgraduate degree at Cardiff?

“One of the reasons to come to Cardiff University is the great Scholarship program that they offer for UK and EU students. Thanks to the Scholarship, I can study the Master I wanted to apply for without worrying too much about the finance issues.”

Is there anything about your postgraduate course that has stood out in your experience?

“The way teachers and all the staff in the School get involved in my work. Everyone helps each other. There is a very positive and collaborative atmosphere.”

What do you think of Cardiff as a place to live as a postgraduate?

“Cardiff is big and small at the same time. The city has everything I needed during my staying. All the services, leisure and facilities you need are in Cardiff, and at the same time it doesn’t have the problems of living in a big city. In Cardiff, you can walk everywhere! For a postgraduate student I cannot find a better city to live in that combines the perfect size and meet the needs of young-adult students.”

Has studying for a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University lived up to your expectations?

“I didn’t know anything about Cardiff University before coming here, and now I am satisfied and proud of being part of this particular university. The way of teaching, the international atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff and students make my experience in Cardiff the best.”
