Camille studied her first degree in Nantes University and didn’t want to stop studying at graduation. The prospect of an English language LLM European Legal Studies brought her to Cardiff where she found friends and support in abundance. Her Postgraduate Taught Scholarship has helped boost her employability.

Can you tell us a little bit about the programme in your own words?

“Although this course is associated to European Law it can suit many students as there are a wide range of different modules to choose from. The atmosphere is great as the classes have small numbers of students and great teachers. It is really interactive. My fellow students come from all around the world which makes the classes even more interesting as we can compare our different legal systems.”

What did the Postgraduate Taught Scholarship mean to you?

“Without the Scholarship, I would have had to pay for my University fees on my own. The scholarship meant an enormous release for me.”

Have you been able to secure funding from other places, how else are you supporting your studies?

“My studies are also funded by a French scholarship. I don’t have a part-time job because I find it hard to work as the same time as studying. Also, the seminars that we have to prepare require a lot of work.”

What were your motivations for undertaking a postgraduate degree?

“I did not want to stop after graduation. I felt like I needed more and I also love to study. It will definitely advance my career and it is a great bonus to have a LLM on my CV.”

Why did you decide to do your postgraduate degree at Cardiff?

“It is a great opportunity to study in Cardiff. The University has very high standard of excellence. When I heard about the opportunity to do a LLM in Cardiff I did not hesitate to jump at the opportunity.”

Is there anything about your postgraduate course that has stood out in your experience?

“My flatmates made a big difference in my overseas experience. They are fun and supportive.”

What do you think of Cardiff as a place to live as a postgraduate?

“There is everything you need to enjoy your student life in Cardiff. It is also a large sized city which is close to student residences and the university. Cathays is surrounded by parks and nice landscapes.”

How do you think your postgraduate course will contribute to your future career plans?

“I am from France and employers are looking for people who speak English fluently. Moreover, nowadays, students have to be mobile as we may not find a job in our home town or we may have to change a lot of cities during our first years of work.”

Has studying for a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University lived up to your expectations?

“I did not expect to be closely supported by the postgraduate office notably and by the teachers. Moreover, the University provides all the facilities and services students need and even more.”

What are your biggest achievements as a postgraduate student at Cardiff University so far?

“Getting good feedback from my teachers following my formative assessment.”
