Thanks to her Postgraduate Taught Scholarship, Teodora has benefitted from incredible support for revision, careers advice and academic issues. Not only that, she has had the opportunity to study a CIPD-accredited MSc Human Resource Management course in a friendly and diverse city.

Can you tell us a little bit about the programme in your own words?

“The Human Resource Management course is heavily theoretically oriented, but there is a great emphasis on practical skills during the tutorials, where students are encouraged to solve real-life problems in an innovative way. The lecturers are very friendly and easy to approach. They create a very relaxed study environment, where everyone feels comfortable to contribute and ask for help. There is a great cultural diversity, which is very beneficial for class discussions.”

What did the Postgraduate Taught Scholarship mean to you?

“Receiving this scholarship was a great honour for me. It was not just a matter of financial support. It was an acknowledgement for my hard work and a given chance from someone that believes in my future potential. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given by Cardiff University. This scholarship has not only enabled me to continue my education, but has also given me the chance to meet incredible people, study in a challenging and nurturing environment and pursuing my dreams.”

What were your motivations for undertaking a postgraduate degree?

“My main motivation for undertaking a postgraduate course was my personal desire to become a HR consultant. I have always wanted to be involved with a subject that is fast-evolving, challenging and making a real contribution to business performance. I think that the ability to manage effectively people makes the real difference between failure and success.”

Why did you decide to do your postgraduate degree at Cardiff?

“My decision to do a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University was heavily influenced by its remarkable reputation and its long traditions of educational excellence. The university is a proud member of the Russell Group and its Business School is ranked among the top research institutions in the UK. The students here have the amazing opportunity to be taught by leading practitioners and academics in the sphere of Business and Management.”

Is there anything about your postgraduate course that has stood out in your experience?

“The HRM course at Cardiff University is one of the few that has CIPD accreditation, which makes postgraduate students Chartered members without sitting any additional exams. The course also stands out with its residential programme, which provides students with very useful practical sessions about the art of negotiation and how they can enhance their transferable skills.”

What do you think of Cardiff as a place to live as a postgraduate?

“Cardiff is a lovely place that can offer something to everyone. I love how dynamic and multicultural the city is. It has an incredible historical spirit, lively nightlife and a vast array of entertainment venues. The city has a very supportive environment for its students. The prices of accommodations are affordable and there are always special deals and discounts for students.”

How do you think your postgraduate course will contribute to your future career plans?

“I think having a postgraduate qualification from Cardiff University would definitely improve my employment prospects and would give me the competitive edge to become a preferable candidate for any job. I feel much more confident applying for jobs now, because I see how the course is developing my skills. One the most important things that I have learned from my university experience at Cardiff is to be critical and to look beyond the rational and the logical.”

Has studying for a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University lived up to your expectations?

“So far my experience here has been incredible. The university offers amazing facilities to nurture a strong postgraduate spirit among its students. The Graduate centre is one of the many places, where students can find a peaceful environment to study, watch a movie or just meet with other postgraduates for a chat. Students are provides with an incredible support with exams revision, career advice, academic issues, and everyone is so friendly and cooperative. Studying here has definitely lived up my expectations.”
