Pythagorean Astronomy: Cambridge Science Festival and Gravitational Waves from Inflation

For the 31st March episode of Pythagoras’ Trousers, I reported from the Cambridge Science Festival, specifically at the Institute of Astronomy‘s open afternoon. As well as speaking to a number of the exhibitors (and vistors) at the Institute, I also spoke to a few of the cosmologists about the latest results from the BICEP2 experiment (which Cardiff scientists were involved in – read more about that on The Conversation) . Below you can listen to the extended version of the astronomy section, with an additional interview with Prof George Efstathiou, director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmology in Cambridge and the lead UK science in the Planck mission.

Originally broadcast on Monday 31st March 2014, on Radio Cardiff 98.7FM.

And that’s not all in terms of radio and podcasts about this topic this month:

  • A few of us in Cardiff (myself, postgraduate student Seb Khan and 2nd year undergraduate Jeni Millard) and were also involved in the April 2014 episode of Awesome Astronomy.
  • Stephen Fairhurst, one of our gravitational wave researchers, and I can be heard tonight at on “Science Cafe“, at 18:30 on BBC Radio Wales, which will be available on the iPlayer until next Tuesday (8th April).
