We’ve spent the last three years refurbishing eight of your libraries. We’ve listened to your suggestions, and provided improved facilities and working spaces, based on how you use the libraries.

We’ve picked out some of the highlights below, and you can take a look at the individual library blogs and Twitter feeds to see more photos. Better still, come in and see for yourself!

Aberconway Library

Aberconway Library has improved the ventilation in its Datastream room and first floor quiet study area, replaced the tables and carpets in the main books area, and installed some extra computers, printers and scanners.

Arts and Social Studies Library has a brand new ground floor area, open for business in October 2014. This large-scale refurbishment features a new entrance, self-service kiosks, and an automated book sorter. Work is wrapping up on a new staff working area, and a custom-built short loan and study area. We’ve also improved wheelchair access and temperature control.

Thanks to a generous donation from a School of Engineering alumnus, Captain Kenneth Nelson, a new group discussion room is being built in the Trevithick Library. Existing group rooms can be used by groups of up to eight people, but the new room will be able to cater for larger groups of ten people or more. The room will also be used for Careers and Employability seminars, and as a quiet space during exam revision periods. The new ‘Nelson Room’ is not quite finished, and is awaiting furniture and installation of a plasma screen with wireless connection.  We hope to be able to open the doors to this new facility close to Christmas 2014.
