Sorry I’m a bit late with posting this latest blog, life is crazy hectic as per usual! We’re going headfirst into May exam season (gulp) and you’ll all be putting the study hours in no doubt, so I wish you all the best of luck! You can do it!
This time of year is not exactly my favourite as it usually involves becoming a caffeine-fuelled grumpy library hermit, but on Wednesday April 22nd we were able to escape the clutches of essay writing for a day to experience arguably the best day of the academic year. This is of course the infamous Welsh Varsity, the best of all the inter-university varsity’s (in my opinion). Shockingly it was actually my first and last Varsity of my university career, but what a Varsity it was! It was held in Swansea for the first time since 2010, with the rugby match and culmination of the event held in the Liberty stadium. For those of you not familiar with the Welsh Varsity, it’s a fiercely competitive sporting event between Cardiff University and Swansea University, with both university’s battling it out to win the coveted Varsity crown. There are so many sports represented at Varsity and these include: rugby union, hockey, cricket, football, cheerleading, badminton, lacrosse, squash, golf, basketball, rowing, netball, american football, fencing, equestrian and more! This year there were more than 15,000 students in attendance of the event, so it was guaranteed to be a fantastic day and atmosphere.
The sun was out, the drinks were flowing and the rivalry was fierce. When the Cardiff boys brought it home with a 27-22 victory over the Swans, the atmosphere was electric!
Despite the fact I’ll be graduating this year and going into the real world, I’m definitely going to have to come up and visit for the next Varsity so I can pretend I’m a student for just one more day..
The next post I do will be after I’ve handed my final essays in, what a terrifying thought! Wish me luck- I’m going to need it!
