ShockSoc Report

ShockSoc – Recent and Upcoming Events

The first few weeks of term have been busy for us, with the year being kicked off with a well-attended introductory session where we messed around with Arduinos and LED matrices. The follow-on session involved making an LED Pong game and then messing around with the code.

Lightning Lab and CBCVisits to the University’s Lightning Lab, where Dr Dave Clark and his team gave us a tour of the facility and a demonstration (ear protectors were needed!), and the Compound Semiconductor facilities (such as the clean rooms), led by Prof. Paul J. Tasker, gave us a good insight into some of the cutting-edge research being performed at Cardiff. We also had an industry talk by three Renishaw engineers about the work they do at the company and a seminar by Würth Elektronik, an industry-leading manufacturer for electronic components.

We are currently very busy organising next semester’s events, which will include a project on autonomous line-followers, a trip to the National Student Space Conference and (hopefully!) sending some teams to the Bristol University EEE society 2016 Hackathon.
