ShockSoc – Recent and Upcoming Events
The first few weeks of term have been busy for us, with the year being kicked off with a well-attended introductory session where we messed around with Arduinos and LED matrices. The follow-on session involved making an LED Pong game and then messing around with the code.
Visits to the University’s Lightning Lab, where Dr Dave Clark and his team gave us a tour of the facility and a demonstration (ear protectors were needed!), and the Compound Semiconductor facilities (such as the clean rooms), led by Prof. Paul J. Tasker, gave us a good insight into some of the cutting-edge research being performed at Cardiff. We also had an industry talk by three Renishaw engineers about the work they do at the company and a seminar by Würth Elektronik, an industry-leading manufacturer for electronic components.
We are currently very busy organising next semester’s events, which will include a project on autonomous line-followers, a trip to the National Student Space Conference and (hopefully!) sending some teams to the Bristol University EEE society 2016 Hackathon.
