Focus Groups for a new library building

The University Library Service is setting up a Working Group to review and develop a business case for a new, multi-disciplinary, research library on the Cathays Campus. As part of this we’d like to invite staff to attend a focus group to discuss your requirements for a new library. Key questions include:

– how could a new research library support your research requirements?
– what facilities, and support from staff, would you like to see provided in a new library?
– how can we develop our provision for students (alongside the research library) to support your teaching?

The focus groups will be held on the following dates;
26th April 10-11 Trevithick Seminar rooms 1 and 2

17 May 12.30 – 1.30 Cochrane Building Room 0.22

19th June 2-3pm ASSL meeting room

Places will be limited so please contact Julie Spiteri or Angela Rawlinson to book a place ( or

Book Move

The book move from Duthie to Health Library is progressing quickly.  However there are a few books available to borrow in Duthie.  These are books that have been returned this week.

The photo shows the books on the new shelves.

Self Issue

The new self issue machine’s have arrived in the new health library and are being prepared ready for your use!

The idea is that you can help yourself check out and in the books you need, which will free up library staff time to help you with more in depth queries. On top of that their installation means that we can make our new build a 24 hour one.

We do have self issue in the current health library, but the new machines have a new card scanning facility which means that you won’t be likely to leave your card behind anymore. New and improved.

Health Library Developments at Cardiff University

Welcome to our new blog!  Here we will be keeping you up to date on the exciting developments of our new library which is rapidly being finished here on the Heath Park campus of Cardiff University!

The library will be situated in the newly, purpose built Cochrane Building on what some of you will know as the old Radnor House space.

It will be a merger of some of the current health libraries, namely the Duthie Library, The Nursing and Healthcare Library, Ty Dewi Sant and School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies, Caerleon.

Watch this space for news of the creation of the library spaces and collaboration going on to make this new development a reality!
