New & Improved BNF & BNFC App

A new and improved BNF & BNFC Apps have been released, you will no longer need to have an Athens username and password to download the apps. The apps will also work offline when you have no internet access.

The old apps will no longer be updated and will be withdrawn at the end of the year so please make sure you download the new version.

Vacation Loans

From today (Monday 7th December) all 1 week, 2 week and 4 week loans issued or renewed will be due on Wednesday 6th January 2016.

Please check the dates your books are due for return and ensure they are renewed before you go home for Christmas, you may have items that are due to be returned while you are away and if there are reservations you will not be able to renew.  Please contact the library if you have any problems renewing your items.

Trial – PsycBooks & PsycTests

We currently have a trials to 2 resources from the same supplier as PsycInfo – PsycBooks & PsycTests

PsycBooks contains full text in PDF of scholarly book titles published by the American Psychological Association (APA).  In 2006, the database offering includes about 900 titles, including 100 out-of-print books from 1950-2002, approximately 300 archival resources in psychology, and the exclusive electronic release of the APA/Oxford University Press Encyclopedia of Psychology with over 1,500 authored entries.  PsycBOOKS is updated with new releases of APA books and books originally produced by other publishers on a monthly basis.

PsycTests is an electronic database providing descriptive summaries, full text, and relevant citations on the development and assessment of tests and measures that can be used in research and teaching. The database serves as a repository for the full text (when available) of psychological tests and measures as well as a source of structured information about tests of relevance to psychologists and professionals in related fields such as psychiatry, management, business, education, social science, neuroscience, law, medicine, and social work. Updated monthly, PsycTESTS® includes unpublished tests, tests developed by psychologists for which no source document has been located, and information about published tests available from commercial publishers.

Trial – Oxford Clinical Psychology

We currently have a trial to Oxford Clinical Psychology:

Oxford Clinical Psychology provides full-text access to over 250 titles in Oxford’s global clinical psychology publishing program in an integrated online service. Covering a broad range of specialty areas, disorders, and treatment modalities, Oxford Clinical Psychology enables users to search and browse high-quality research and practice information contributed by a superlative group of experienced authors and editors. Content is extensively vetted, and regular updates adding new content and classic backlist titles will soon yield a library of over 300 titles. This comprehensive library of both new and classic titles includes professional reference books, seminal scholarly and research works, and Therapist Guides and Workbooks in the renowned Treatments ThatWork series.

Heath Park Campus Network – Potential Disruption

Heath Park Campus Network

Following consultation with the Heath Park campus LCRs, the end-of-life RX network switch on the Heath Park campus has been scheduled for replacement over the weekend of Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September 2015. During this period the network on the Heath Park campus should be considered at-risk as there will be several interruptions to the service as the replacement is performed.

This work forms part of the wider programme of network infrastructure upgrade, and follows on from the replacement of the main RX switch in the Park Place Datacentre that took place on Wednesday 26th August 2015


What is being done?

The RX network switch on the Heath Park campus is being replaced.
When is it being done?

All day Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September
Who will be affected?

Users of University network services on the Heath Park campus


How will this affect users?

There will be several network outages over the weekend as the replacement work is undertaken.


Why is it being done?

The RX switches are end-of-life and are being replaced as part of a wider programme of network infrastructure upgrading.

UpToDate Anywhere

Cardiff University Library Service has renewed the subscription to UpToDate for 2015-2016 and this

UpToDate is a clinical decision support resource that provides answers to clinical questions on over 10,000 topics covering a wide range of medical specialties. UpToDate topic reviews cover all of the major aspects of a particular condition, including symptoms, tests, diagnosis and treatment options.

You can access UpToDate via:

You will need to log on with your University username and password. You can also link through to Cardiff University journal holdings from the reference lists in each UpToDate article.

In addition you can register for UpToDate Anywhere which offers access on up to two mobile devices.

In order to access the UpToDate Anywhere app, please follow the instructions below.

  • Access UpToDate Anywhere via any of the above routes logging on with your Cardiff username and password.
  • Click on the “Login/Register” tab in the top right hand corner.
  • Create a unique user name and password on the UpToDate Anywhere registration page: IMPORTANT: You will use this username and password to access UpToDate from your mobile devices.
  • You are now registered and will receive a confirmation email about installing the UpToDate Mobile App
  • Following these instructions you can now download UpToDate apps on up to two devices
  • In addition to the app, now you have registered you will be able to access UpToDate from any computer with internet access using your unique username and password at: and click the log in button located on the top right corner of the webpage.
