Information Services is piloting a new search tool, LibrarySearch. The Beta release is available at: http://librarysearch.cf.ac.uk
LibrarySearch provides a single starting point for searching and accessing the University’s range of information resources; these include the existing Voyager Library catalogue, the institutional repository ORCA, digital sources and journal articles.
This new search interface is easy to use and offers a wide selection of limits to refine your search results. It also searches the tables of contents within books; for some subjects this has more than doubled the number of items found compared to a search in Voyager.
LibrarySearch also includes ArticleSearch, a Google Scholar type search function. The default QuickSearch enables you to quickly find those journal articles on your subject which are immediately available online via the library. Work is ongoing in this area to increase the number of journals covered by this search. You can also select an appropriate subject from the drop down menu next to the search box to search more widely for journal articles and other publications using the major databases for your subject.
LibrarySearch is running as a pilot until summer 2012, when the full service will be launched. This will ultimately replace the Voyager Library Catalogue but we’ll be offering both interfaces whilst we develop LibrarySearch in response to your feedback.
Please give LibrarySearch a try and use the ‘Feedback’ link on the home page at http://librarysearch.cf.ac.uk to provide any comments or suggestions.
Once launched, the full LibrarySearch service will have a Welsh language interface and will also be available via Cardiff Portal (https://portal.cf.ac.uk) and in the Cardiff University Mobile App (www.cardiff.ac.uk/mobile).
