Of the many interest groups around the department, the Bioinformatics Coffee Club is one which draws participants from across all of the research divisions and our associated University Research Institutes, incorporating Biosciences, Medicine, and any other College schools which wish to attend.
The intention behind setting up the group was to get to know other people working in bioinformatics, statistics or computational biology and generate a community around those doing similar work but who are often spread out around the department / university. In the 6 months since we began regularly meeting, dozens of researchers and technical staff from across the college have met in a casual setting to discuss their work, the joys and pitfalls of working in the field or sometimes to vent about their frustrations to others who understand!
It’s a meeting for global or University news, updates and getting to know other researchers with similar or complementary experience and any level of skill or interest is welcome.
Bioinformatics Coffee Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Sir Martin Evans Building, either the cafeteria or adjacent room depending on abundance of undergraduate students! The next meeting is 6th of June at 3pm – Befitting of the group name – tea, coffee, and biscuits are always available.
