This discussion seminar, on Wednesday April 25th, 2012, is the second of two meetings in which we will discuss the work of the distinguished Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1986). Tarkovsky’s films problematise and provoke reflection on many key aspects of human experience, including identity, memory and the nature of art.
This second of the two seminars will focus on Tarkovsky’s film Stalker (19729, which will be introduced by Dr Will Johnson, of the School of History, Archaeology and Religion at Cardiff University. The film is loosely based on a short science-fiction story , “Roadside Picnic,” by the Russian writers Boris and Arkady Strugatsky.
The seminar will take place in the Humanities Building, Cardiff University, Room 3.48, from 5 to 6.30 p.m. Wine and nibbles provided. All welcome.
We will be arranging a showing of Stalker some days before the seminar. Please contact Geoffrey Samuel if you are interested in attending.
