Cardiff University – I will forever be in your debt for helping me find my best friend.

14 February 2017

Craig (LLB 2005) and Becky (BSc 2005) met during a ‘sexy Santa’ netball match in their final year at Cardiff University, and are now expecting their first child

To this day, my wife Becky claims we met in the Talybont Social bar during our first year at Cardiff University. Allegedly, this was at a hypnotist’s show – and I’m ashamed to say I have no recollection!

I remember meeting Becky on a cold December day in 2004, during a ‘sexy Santa’ netball match. We happened to be marking each other, which seemed to have been conveniently arranged by our friends.  Soon after, we had our first date – a picnic in the castle grounds – and became official amidst our finals in 2005.

We share very fond memories of nights out in Clwb Ifor Bach, Moloko’s, and the obligatory Wednesday sport’s night at the student’s union. The final medley of ‘summer of ‘69’, ‘Come on Eileen’, and ‘Mr. Brightside’ were a particular highlight!

After university, Becky and I moved to London. I qualified as a barrister, and Becky studied for a Master’s.  She is now working in Human Resources at Imperial College.  We live on the city’s outskirts, and are expecting to be joined by a healthy bundle of joy in a few weeks!

If it weren’t for Cardiff University, we may never have met, although we have since discovered we holidayed in the same campsites during holidays of our childhood. It’s funny how fate has a way of bringing people together, helped by a few scheming friends and (potentially) a hypnotist.
