  • Datastream is a leading financial database used by analysts and academic researchers.  It contains data on stocks, company fundamental, corporate social responsibility profiles, estimates, unit and investment trusts, equity indices and their constituents, commodities, economics, interest rates, exchange rates, warrants, bonds, futures and options. Does not contain mergers and acquisition data, see Thomson One Banker.

Datastream is available exclusively on three terminals in the journals section of the Aberconway Library and can be accessed via an Excel add-in on those computers. It allows you to both search for and download data. Due to high demand, you MUST book in advance at the main library desk.

  • WRDS is a platform which hosts many different, independent datasets and provides  a standardised platform for the user. Predominantly North American in coverage, it contains datasets such as: Compustat (US and global company fundamentals), CRSP (US securities), Audit Analytics (audit data on US companies), Risk metrics (US corporate governance), IBES (individual analyst forecasts for global companies), Execucomp (US executive remuneration), Eventus (event study tool).

As an advanced financial research tool, access to WRDS is limited to post-graduate students only (as stipulated in the licence terms). Undergraduates wishing to use the database must use a class account which can only be arranged by academic staff.

To get access register at the WRDS home page. Once your registration has been approved by the local administrator at Cardiff, you will receive an email on how to complete registration and gain access.
